James Brown

American perform. Started with the gospel group "Gospel Starlighters" in 1953, they changed their sound to R&B in 1955 after James became the front man, and changed their name to "The Famous Flames". Performing under his own name by the early 1960s, he transformed the Soul genre through the 1960s.
